Panna Cage Session with Former Mayor, Winston Michael

On 23rd October former Ashford Mayor, Winston Michael came to visit Uprising. During his year term as Mayor of Ashford, Winston raised £25,000 for our charity. As well as funding a variety of other projects Uprising bought a Panna cage, something Winston really believed would be a benefit for the young people of Ashford.

1v1 ‘Panna’ is a new format of football where the focus is on defeating your opponent either with goals or by gaining an instant win by performing a ‘Panna’ or ‘Nutmeg’ by playing the ball through your opponent’s legs. It is a fantastic game which helps develop close control, creativity, touch, innovation, decision making, defensive and attacking skills. Games are quick, lasting 2-3 minutes ensuring that players aren’t waiting too long for their next turn to play.

The young people thoroughly enjoyed the Panna session and we had a good turn out with over 30 children and young people coming to test their football skills. The young people said, ‘It was really fun, and I can’t wait to do it again.’ The former Mayor even had a go and is keen for many other children and young people across Ashford to use the Panna Cage. Keep your eyes open for the Panna cage coming to a park near you.
